VISION HOUSING (THE FORWARD TRUST)
Back in August we updated you about the pilot partnership between NFNO and Vision Housing. We’re delighted to say that following a successful end-of-pilot review we have now expanded our partnership with Vision, part of The Forward Trust, who have agreed to deliver up to 19 placements by the end of the project.
Vision help provide housing and support to ex-offenders and homeless individuals, and they are specialists at intervening with people when they are at an extremely vulnerable point in their lives. Through their tailored packages of support and resettlement, they are proven experts in reducing re-offending, building support networks and improving resilience of clients long into the future. Vision have quickly established themselves as a vital partner in our accommodation pathway.
We hope to get a case study up on our website soon but in the meantime, we want to extend our thanks to the team at Vision for their dedication to supporting NFNO’s clients.
CAUSEWAY IRISH HOUSING ASSOCIATION
As reported in NFNO’s own Bulletin, as well as more widely in the homelessness and housing sectors, people under the age of 35 have had their benefits restricted through the Shared Accommodation Rate (SAR) of Housing Benefit since 2012. This, combined with the on-going freeze on Housing Benefit and ever-increasing private rents, means that our younger clients are increasingly struggling to meet the cost of their rent.
What is the impact of this? It can mean weeks or months spent in emergency or temporary accommodation while trying to source accommodation; it can mean overcrowding and extended periods sofa surfing and staying with family; it can ultimately lead to rough sleeping for some.
NFNO is committed to providing suitable, sustainable accommodation for our clients. When we first contacted Causeway Irish Housing Association they immediately stood out as a provider with the same commitment, and who had the potential to meet the needs of younger clients and support them in their journey to affordable living.
Since we started working with CIHA in April of this year, we have successfully housed four people, and we have now established a formal partnership with CIHA to deliver 10 more placements by the end of the project. We’re really pleased to have a bespoke pathway for our younger clients and will continue to update on the partnership between NFNO and CIHA over the coming months.
